My First Day Alone

Well, I took this picture right after I got Jonas dressed this morning. I was excited to spend our first whole day together, he has been being so good lately...This is probably the only picture I could of gotten of him today without tears or a sad looking face. He pretty much wanted to be held and fed all day today in between his major crying outbursts. I think he must of missed Momma T since she had to go back to work. He is sleeping now but I don't dare going in there and risk the chance of waking him up. Wish me luck tomorrow and hope that I can get a shower in before 3 in the afternoon.

Weekend Report

Jonas was a busy man this weekend. He ran some errands with us, had visitors, and finally stopped seeing stars from all the photos we've been taking of him. Saturday, Michelle, Shawn, Jonathan, and Connor came to see "Little Chunkers". Connor is still having a hard time remembering his name is Jonas, and not Little Chunkers, but it's really cute to hear him say it. He also had his first experience eating out at a restaurant, but he doesn't remember because he slept through the whole thing. YEAH...we finally got to eat our food while it was hot. :) Michelle and Shawn brought LC back a Life is Good hat from their trip to Eureka Springs, AR last week. I love it, and can't wait till his little noggin is big enough to wear it.

Today we slept in again...boy am I going to miss that. Sadly, tomorrow I have to go back to work. Although I can't complain too much. For the next couple of months I'm going to work in the office on Monday and Tuesday, from home Wednesday, and take Thursday and Friday off.

After everyone was up and around it was time for Jonas's first real bath. He almost seemed to enjoy it, except for the morning sun shining in his eyes. The bath must have made him hungry because he decided he needed to eat at least every hour today. This afternoon we picked up his birth announcements and came home to relax. The little guy finally decided it was time for a nice long nap and he's been sleep for over an hour now. I'm sure he'll wake up shortly though because we're just about ready to eat, and I swear as soon as he smells food, he thinks it's time for him to eat.

Tonight I'll iron my clothes for work (since I'm sure I won't be getting out of bed any sooner than I need to) and relax the rest of the evening. I need to get in some good quality time with him tonight since I'm not going to see the little guy all day tomorrow. :( I'm sure going to miss him.

Big Day for Jonas

Jonas had a big day today. He started out waking up in the morning about 8:30. Of course, the first duty of business was to have his diaper changed and eat. Normally, a 2-3 hour nap follows, but for some reason he decided to stay up and entertain Amy, Rory, and Kiley when they came over. Kiley and Rory love holding him and it must have wore him out, because he finally decided to go down for a nap around 1:30. He sleep through the trip to CVS to meet Nan. She had been waiting all week to meet him in person.

After CVS, he took his first trip to Costco and ordered his birth announcements. We tried to do it at CVS, but ran into problems. Don't ask....let's just say Emily took notes and her boss and the DM for that store will be getting an e-mail about everything that did (or didn't) happen during our visit. Jonas is definitely his mother's son, because his favorite part of Costco is the friendly sample ladies who stand at the end of each isle and hand out food and drink. :) Unfortunately, that was just enough to really make him hungry, and he told momma that he needed to be feed RIGHT NOW!

I guess the trip to Costco was enough to get him excited again, because he decided he wasn't tired and he and I chilled out listening to John Denver while momma made dinner. Right before dinner we figured out why he wanted to party all day....his umbilical cord finally fell off. Congratulations little guy....now we can finally give him a real bath.
The little bugger kept begging to stay up all night, but we finally got him to fall asleep around 10:00, but only after I read him two books and rocked him to sleep. He's never stayed awake this much in one day, and never has had a hard time going to sleep so far. I guess we'll see how he sleeps through the night.

P.S. - Jonas wants to welcome another friend into the world. Lukas B. (one of my co-workers son) was born last week. He can't wait to have play dates with Lukas!!

Today we had another fun day. Momma made us breakfast this morning and we relaxed at home until a little after 1:00. Then we went out on another search for a 4th of July outfit, but we just can't find anything we liked. Seems he was born just a little too late. We did make a few purchases from the gift cards we received and Emily tried them on him tonight. OH MY GOODNESS....he looks super cute!!! I can't wait till we get them washed so we can show everyone.

When we got home the little guy was so hot from being out that we stripped him down to his diaper and put a blanket around him (bottom picture). I was tempted to find something we could put on his chest and armpits to make it look like he had hair, but I didn't. Em and I had a good laugh over it though. This kid better have a good sense of humor. Then again, living with us...how can he not?!? Watch out Norma, we may have a little trickster on our hands. You better be prepared. After dinner J-Man and I snuggled and took a nap on the couch while momma read. I guess several people called to see how we were doing, but the two of us were out.

The little guy and I were hanging out in bed this morning. He slept in late and then we went with momma to get her hair cut, stopped in at Target, and went on a mad hunt to find him a cute 4th of July outfit, but no luck so far. We'll look again tomorrow. :)

Sleeping Poll

How many times will Jonas get up at night? 2 - 5 votes (31%) 3 - 6 votes (37%) 4 - 4 votes (25%) 5 - 1 vote (6%) This pretty much changes each night. He started out waking up one time and staying awake the whole night, but last night he was up 3 times, but only to feed and then right back to sleep. We'll see what tonight has in store for us.

Exciting past few days...

The last few days have been exciting for Jonas. He's meet almost everyone in mine and Emily's family. It's exhausting being so cute!

He's a great baby though, and sleeps even though he gets passed around by 5-10 people a day. We really couldn't ask for a better baby. He's breast-feeding like a champ, calm and easy going, and sleeps really well. In fact, last night we all got a good nights sleep and had our first family sleep in this morning. We didn't get out of bed and get ready until 10 am.

Saturday he went in to see the pediatrician for the first time. He gained a half and ounce and passed his exam with flying colors. Doctor said he should be fine-tuning his super powers in the next few weeks. Emily thinks he'll be a cross between Aqua Man and the Green Arrow.

The little turkey already answered my next polling question...Saturday night he crissened his room by peeing all over his changing table...including me. I was looking the other way and didn't even notice until Em started screaming "Pee...Pee...Pee." I covered him with my hand to keep the little pistil at bay, but he had pretty much soaked everything by then. Em and I were laughing so hard we nearly peed our pants too. Now we have a wash cloth handy everytime we change him. So....I'm going to change the polling question to Who will Jonas pee on NEXT? LOL

In the picture he's wearing the pj's from aunt Debbie and the Peanut - Life is Good blanket that Norma gave him. Everyone knows I'm a HUGE Life is Good fan (really that's about the only t-shirts you'll see me in)...so I absolutely love the blanket!! But, it's also perfect to swaddle him in, sadly he's almost to big for most of the other one's we have. :)

More Uncles

Emily's brothers Marion and Doug came up Sunday to meet our newest addition. I think Marion feel in love. He's already looking to to finding a new job in KC and buying the house down the block from us.

Meeting the family

Friday night Jonas's Grammie, Uncle Jared and Uncle Jeff came to see him. Yesterday, he also got to meet my mom's brothers and sisters and some of their kids. Today, he gets to meet his uncles Marion and Doug (Emily's brothers) What an exciting weekend so many things have happened, but I'll have to write about it later and fill you all in on the details.

Jonas started to feel right at home because the first thing he saw was the welcome home banner that Amy, Rory, and Kiley left him. The cats are still getting used to Jonas, but after a few hours they were starting to warm up. I think in a few days everyone will be happy again. I'm sure my brother Jared will give them the little extra attention they need while he's here this weekend.

Hopefully he will have a few visitors this evening before Grammie, Uncle Jeff, and Uncle Jared get here late tonight. Grammie seems awful excited to see her grand baby.

New Mommies Thing of the Day - I've already put him in three outfits just because I couldn't wait to see what he looked like in them. (BTW - thanks cousin Jana for the onsie in this picture) We have to see how many clothes will actually fit him....right!?! At least that's my story.

We're Going Home

The doctors gave everyone the go ahead to be discharged today, so we'll be heading home this afternoon. So far, everything is going pretty smooth and Em and I are starting to get the hang of things. I think it helps that our little guy allows us to actually get some good long naps in.

If all goes well, Jonas gets to experience life outside a hospital in a few hours. This morning while Momma was taking a shower I told him all about clouds and the sky. We're looking forward to a nice afternoon in the park staring up at the clouds to see what kind of shapes we can see.

Sweetest Thing...

Last night may have been a rough night, but today was a truly beautiful day!! Emily and Jonas were able to get a lot of rest today and I had hours and hours of pure enjoyment (along with a few more joyful tears) just holding him every chance I got. I fall more in love with him with every tick of the clock.

We're still trying to learn what combination is right to get him to breastfeed, but the nurses think as soon as Em's milk comes in he will have no problems.

I'm sure he will be up most of the night tonight also...especially since he is fast asleep on momma chest right now, but he seems even more calm today than yesterday, and were starting to understand more of his cries. Em and I both have a good positive attitude going into the night. Let's hope the positive attitude and a the extra sleep pulls us through the night. :)

Boy or Girl Poll

Funny how now that Jonas is born the polling for boys seems to have skyrocketed! ha-ha I think before anyone knew it was a boy the polling was something like 2 votes boy and 7 votes girl. So now here's the next question. Go easy on us...Jonas seems to take these things for real.

Jonas has "people"

Well I've been too busy actually taking care of the little guy this morning to snap a new picture. This picture was taken just hours after he was born. I'll post more tonight if I get time.

Seems to be the trend the past few days is that I take the day shift and momma has the night shift. Poor Jonas had a rough night last night. The only thing that really soothed him was a binky. Jonas and momma finally got a good long nap around 5:00 am and I had some wonderful bonding time with him while they both slept. He's bucking a little at breastfeeding today, but the nurses say it's normal. Luckily, Em was able to feed him a little just now and looks like there out for the count again.

We found out yesterday that Jonas will share the same birthday with one of my old friends Carmen. Carmen and Stephen just had a little boy named Haden in January, and coincidentally his birthday is the day after mine. Crazy huh? Carmen is the one who inspired me to start our blog, and it's been a family tradition to check out Haden's website each night before we go to bed so we can see what shenanigans Haden's been up to that day. Today when we checked the website, Haden gave a big shout out to Jonas. Rock on little man!!

Well it's taken me 30 minutes type this little post and in the mean time the mean (actually she's really nice) nurse came in to take Jonas vitals and exposed him to the cold air (Em's burning up and poor Jonas and I are freezing) so he woke up long enough for me to snap a quick photo. Here is his impression of a puppy dog. Jonas said he wants some visitor's tonight...so please come by and see him. He's offering to do more animal impressions for all visitors.

Our Chunky Monkey...

I think our little guy actually got cuter over night. He's had a very eventful day. This morning Dr. Schlichter (the OB) came to check on our little chunky monkey and make sure mom was doing fine. Jonas isn't sure he likes the pediatrician quite yet, because their first meeting was a circumcision. I nearly passed out watching the procedure and and am glad he only has to go through that once. The little guy took it like a champ though and doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all.

He's a bit of a night owl though. Seems that he's decided to stay up all night begging us to play poker with him...Em and I told him he was too young for poker, but agreed to stay up most of the night with him anyway. Little One (still can't get away from calling him that) compromised and instead of poker he decided to focus all of his energy on breastfeeding. He was quick to learn how to latch-on and the lactation consultant said that he should be a pro in no time at all.

Today Jonas's Great Aunt Ruth and Uncle Mike came by for a surprise visit and later in the afternoon one of Emily's old co-workers stopped by to hug and kiss on him. Other than the few visitors the three of us hung out in the room most of the day relaxing and smiling our our son!!

The Last Day

Hello Everyone, Well, today was the last day that I would feel Little One moving around inside me and she didn't disappoint me in the least. This morning I thought my stomach was going to bottom out and now my fear of going into labor today is quickly becoming a passing thought. I can't wait to meet this precious soul that has been growing inside me for the past 9 months. I think there is definitely going to be an adjustment period of not having this life inside me any more, but I can't wait to give it a squeeze and plant a big kiss on it's forehead. I appreciate everyones good wishes the last few days and I can't wait to announce if it was a boy or girl and how big it actually is. I'm looking forward to only good times from here.

The Baby's Hair Polling Question

A Beautiful Ending...

This picture was taken the day we found out we were pregnant, and what an amazing day it was. It's hard to believe that the pregnancy is just about over and the real miracle is about to begin.

This morning while I was getting ready for work, I thought to myself that today would be the last day I am able to shower, dress, and leave for work. From this point on, each morning before I leave the house I will spending a few moments with my child, even if it means kissing him/her before I leave.

Don't worry, I'm not naive enough to think that every morning will be sunshine and rainbows, I know that some of those mornings will be spent cleaning puck off the shirt I just spend 10 minutes ironing or cleaning up a blow out diaper when I'm already 15 minutes late for a meeting or arguing with a toddler who demands to wear their snow boots to school in the middle of July.

But the truth is....it will all be worth it. Those times may be trying, but they will create lasting memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. There are few things in life that have beautiful endings, and I will miss all of the wonderful moments Emily and I had during the pregnancy, but it's time to turn the page and start a new chapter of our life. We can't wait to meet our little baby.

The Due Date

Today was the actual due date. Looks like Em's last post should have everyone caught up to date on the details, but we thought we would post a picture of "the belly". :)

We have a date

Well, as we let everyone know yesterday we will be doing a C-section next week if Little One doesn't decide to come before then. I think I'm OK with this reality now as the most important thing is that we deliver a nice healthy baby. They called today and we will have the procedure at 7:30 Monday morning. We have to be at the hospital at 5:30 and I'm sure that when we are done Tracy will start making the calls/emails to everyone to let them know how it went. We'll update you if anything changes. It looks like Allison is the winner of the due date contest, we'll let her know at a future date just exactly what that entails...I'm sure it will be good.

Little One keeps us in suspense...

We've tried walking, spicy food, bumpy roads, even putting the car seat in the truck with hopes that it would coax Little One out, but all were unsuccessful.

Today we had a doctor's appointment and found out that Emily hasn't dilated any more than last week, but it's growing. Estimated weight today 9.6 lbs. The baby also started moving back up, not a positive sign. So, we started the process of scheduling a c-section for early next week. The doctor's office should call tomorrow to see what day it's going to be scheduled for. If by chance the baby would come this weekend, than we would go ahead and still try a natural birth, but were not holding our breath!

Here are the people still in the running for the right date...sorry...no one is even close with the weight, and Emily's happy no one wished this upon her. :) If it's a c-section next week looks like Allison is going to be the closest!

Nope...not today

Yet another day has passed, and still...no baby. Who knows when this kid is going to take it's first breath. I think he is trying to teach us patience. Over dinner, I told Em that I really wish Little One would have come today because then all three of us would have birthdays on the 8th. Guess this kid is already pushing for his independence. :)

Today we drove to Topeka for the Emily's nephew's birthday party at Lake Shawnee. Thankfully, the day was rather overcast and windy so that kept the temperatures tolerable. Emily was jealous because everyone rented paddle boats and kayaks and she couldn't go out on the water, but the family is already planning to go back in September when it's cooler so she can join in on the fun.

I'm still trying to adjust to the fact that I have to go back to work tomorrow. I just knew this baby was going to come this weekend. Oh well, I'm sure Ed (the guy taking over while I'm out) will be glad to have another day of help from me.

06-07-08 ...a fading reality...

Jesse's birthday....gone 06-07-08.....gone (unless there's a miracle birth in less than two hours) 06-08-08....probably not going to happen either Little one appears to have his/her own agenda about when to grace us with his/her presence. Em and I had a long talk with him on Friday night telling him how cool it would be to have a birthday on 06-07-08, but it must have feel on deaf ears, because he is still warm and toasty inside Em's tummy. Emily's favorite number is 8, so we are now hoping for 06-08-08. We'll keep everyone posted, but something tells me this baby isn't coming tomorrow either. Unfortunately that means that I will probably have to go to work on Monday...and I so had my heart set on last Friday being my last day. So...were going to plan on going to Topeka for Jesse's birthday tomorrow. All I know is this baby's got to join us soon, because the doctor already things this baby is 9 lbs. Our next doctor's appointment and sonogram is on Tuesday. It sounds like if we haven't had the baby by then that the doctor may plan to induce us next week. I don't think she wants us to go much past the due date.

How do you know if you have rabies?

My dog bite is doing much better. The actual wound is almost all healed, but it's still pretty badly bruised.

But for some reason I've been having this white foamy stuff drip from my mouth. Is that a bad sign? :)

The Final Days Are Coming

Hello Everyone,

We had a doctor's visit today and things are finally starting to progress. She said that we were dilated to a 1 and we were 50% effaced. I know that doesn't mean we will have Little One tomorrow but it's better than last week when everything was a zero.

After the doctor we decided to take some time and relax with a trip around the lake but I don't know if you can call it to relaxing. We tried to hit all the pot holes in the road since we don't have any railroad tracks nearby to drive over. I've had several people tell me in the last few day that the jarring of going over the tracks helps move the baby down. We had the opportunity to enjoy some wildlife and the highlight was when we saw a lady chasing some geese and screaming to get them moving along...quite entertaining...something I myself might do.

Shell Shocker

OK everyone, something I never thought would happened has...I've hit the nesting phase of the pregnancy. Who would have thought that I even had a nesting bone in my body. I think I'm causing a system overload and going into shock because of it. This morning I've already did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the dinning room and taking a break from the bathroom at this moment. They say you hit this stage about two days before going into labor but knowing Little One she is going to make me go through this for a week because she can. We'll keep you updated as we know more.

Dog Bite Update

Thought I would give an update on my arm. It's doing much better today and within a week or so I should be back to normal. Thanks everyone for checking in on me.

Tonight I was looking through the book where everyone wrote down their guess about what day the baby would be born. Only one person is out of the running. However, there are several people who said the baby would be here by the end of this week. I talked to Jen today, and she was pretty confident that her guess of June 3rd @ 10:05 am was right. I guess we'll see.

At Joy's (Emily's sister) office they were discussing the birth date and mentioned that if the baby is born on Saturday the birthday will be 06-07-08. That would be cool....and easy for me to remember!

All we know is that Emily's ready to have this baby. If you have any helpful hints about things we can do to move this process along, post a comment. We need to try something! :)

From Emily's Point of View...

We've been posting pictures of Emily's belly from our point of view, but I thought it would be interesting to post a picture from her point of view. (In case you're wondering she had on her Superman shirt when she took the picture).

We didn't find out anything new last week at the doctor, but we have another appointment this Thursday. I'm sure we won't find out anything else new, but it's always great to hear the heart beat and get a little reassurance that everything is going well. Em thinks the baby has dropped more even today. So hopefully not too much longer.

By the way, today was Emily's first day of vacation and I think she is already bored so if you have any fun ideas for her...be sure to post them. Otherwise...it's going to be a long voyage until the baby gets here. :)

Maybe she will get bored and post riddles on the blog for everyone!

Why I'm a cat person...

Many of you know, I'm not a big fan of the canine species...or should I say...they not a fan of me? I don't hate dogs by any means, they just scare me. Since I was small I've had bad experiences with dogs. Tonight being one of them...

My confidence was up; I had just braved transporting a dolley full of boxes stacked 5 high down the front porch after seeing a HUGE bumble bee flying around. I told myself, "I can over come my irrational fear of bees and wasps." So I took a deep breath and did it.

After taking the boxes down to the basement it was time to mow. I grabbed the keys to the mower and headed down to the shed. Our neighbor has three dogs (a black lab, a yellow lab, and a wiener dog) who enjoy coming to great you each time they see you.

Normally, I politely smile at them and they follow me down the fence line, but for some strange reason, tonight I thought I would actually stop and pet them. The labs are big enough that when they are on their hind legs their heads clear the fence by a good foot or more.

When I reached my hand over to pet one of them, the other dog bit me. :( The sad thing is that I really wasn't even scared of these dogs (like I am most). I guess he just doesn't like people reaching over the fence. Or maybe...even though I didn't fell scared...maybe he could sense it from me. Who knows.

I'll live, it looks much worse than it really is. I'm sure it will just leave a nasty bruise, but this is the second time I've been bitten by a dog. At least I didn't need stitches this time!

Even when Poet has bitten me the hardest it never was this bad, and people wonder why I'm a cat person?!?
